The good fairy

The good fairy

Once upon a time there was a good fairy. But one day the devil tried to steal her magical powers. He was so deceitful and manipulative and so mean and mercilessly frightening that he managed to convince the good fairy that she had really lost her magical powers. But in truth the good fairy only believed that.

Fiona (that was the fairy's name) went home and cried all day. Then there was a knock on her door. It was her best friend Maria. Fiona opened the door. "I came as quickly as I could. Is everything OK? Are you OK? Did he really take your magic powers away from you? So does he really exist? How can that be?" "I don't know who that was and how exactly he did it," said Fiona and lay back down in her bed. "He broke my wand and spoke some formulas and then-" Fiona stopped talking. The memory was just too horrible. "What then?" asked Maria gently. "Then he said things. Horrible things. And then-" Fiona stopped talking again and took a deep breath. But instead of words, tears and sobs suddenly burst out of her, which immediately embarrassed her and she wiped the tears from her face with her pullover. "Then he made me see horrible things in my head and then"

Fiona told Maria all the details. Finally, she ended with the words: "Since then, I have not been able to connect with the spirits of the good souls." Maria took Fiona in her arms to comfort her and they were both silent for almost half an hour until Maria broke the silence and said: "Are you hungry? I'll order us something to eat. On me, of course!" "That's much too expensive," said Fiona, sitting up in her bed. "Why don't we go to the supermarket and cook something?" "Are you sure? I mean, you really don't look good." "Yes, I want to go downstairs. I'll pay for the food, of course. What are you hungry for?"

Half an hour later they returned to the apartment, their arms laden with packets of pasta and tomato sauce. After eating, Fiona felt much better. Now they were discussing the devil and his terrible plans to ruin the world. "I decided to go to the magic school to ask for advice," said Fiona, resting her head on her hand as she stared blankly into space. "I didn't even know that the devil really exists. But this creature at least came on his behalf. There's something out there, Maria, and it's gaining strength. A dark storm is gathering." "I find it scary when you're like that," said Maria. Fiona sighed but smiled. "Of course I will accompany you to the school!" said Maria. "Well, only if you want to, of course." "I can't tell you how grateful I am that you asked," said Fiona.  "But it's too dangerous. The devil and his mercenaries have no mercy. If they did something to you, I would never be able to forgive myself." "Then you have to lock me up at home and tie me to the heater, otherwise I will just follow you whether you want me to or not. So, when should the trip start?" "Tomorrow," said Fiona. Then you can go home beforehand and pack your things. It's going to be a very long trip, we will be on the road for weeks, maybe months! And it's going to be dangerous. I repeat, REALLY dangerous! It's a matter of life and death. Something worse than death. The worst thing you can imagine!" Maria couldn't say a word for a moment, then she said "Wonderful!", with emphasised joy in her voice. "My new boss is a idiot anyway and I have enough money to get by for the time being. But what about you, Fiona? I can lend you money.  As much as you want!" "You'll get everything back, down to the last cent!" said Fiona and thanked Maria about four dozen more times. "I don't want to leave you alone like this, Fiona. Should we pack your things and then we will go to my place together? You can stay there over night and we will make ourselves really comfortable and tell each other scary stories." Before Maria had even finished the sentence, she realized how stupid her words were and quickly said: "Jokes! We'll tell each other jokes! Or watch a film. Think about something other than that stupid devil." Fiona looked out the window. Had the devil taken away the powers also of other good fairies in the world too? Was the creature that had done this to her the devil himself, or had he or it acted on the devil's behalf?

Fiona packed her large hiking backpack with the essentials, looked around again and wondered if she had forgotten anything, locked the apartment from the outside and set off with Maria to her apartment. She was very grateful to Maria for her support, which Fiona told her every five minutes. Without Maria, she would now certainly fall into dark thoughts and would no longer be able to feel hope on her own. But Maria, with her helpful and determined manner, encouraged her.
